At Beachcomber, we are committed to preserving this rich heritage. Through our Beautiful Local Hands initiative, we are creating opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to become skilled artisans and keep this tradition alive.
Sega tipik takes centre stage in our hotels, where we showcase the vibrancy of local culture through lively ravanne demonstrations and workshops. Led by Beautiful Local Hands beneficiaries, these sessions teach guests the art of playing the ravanne. Participants learn six different hand-tapping techniques, each producing unique sounds and rhythms. After the demonstration, guests can buy their own ravanne as a memorable souvenir. These sales do more than create lasting memories – they fund a ravanne school for children in Rivière Noire village.
So, while you are with us, why not immerse yourself in this iconic piece of Mauritian culture? Learning about the ravanne is not just about music – it is a gateway to understanding the very soul of Mauritius. Through this hands-on, unforgettable experience, you will connect with the authentic spirit of our island in a way few other activities can offer.
